Position Summary:

The Adjunct Faculty role includes primary responsibility for providing quality instruction and maintaining a positive learning environment with an emphasis placed on teaching, supporting and evaluating students. This posting is for two course, Medical Assisting I and Medical Assisting II. Please indicate in your application if you are interested in being considered for either or both.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Teaching the course according to the curriculum, content, and outcomes as specified by the Lead Faculty responsible for the course.
• Timely assessment and evaluation of student assignments, including exams, quizzes, labs, papers, homework, discussions, simulations, and other activities related to the course, including assessment of overall student mastery of material and subject matter content.
• Monitoring and advising students on course-related work, prompt correspondence via email, facilitation of course-related discussions, holding of regular office hours to augment student learning, and other assigned responsibilities corresponding to the faculty teaching assignment.
• Demonstrate teaching effectiveness through continuous professional development, contribution of subject matter expertise in courses taught, and dedication to student success.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Lead Faculty

Course/Outcomes (Medical Assisting I):

• Explain the importance of HIPAA and HITECH compliance laws.
• Describe the different types of insurances and plans.
• Outline your role in medical front office procedures.
• Use knowledge of patient scheduling.
• Describe the importance of providing patient education.

Course/Outcomes (Medical Assisting II):

• Explain the importance of infection control and environmental safety
• Describe the responsibilities of communication in the clinical healthcare setting
• Outline the role of the Clinical Medical Assistant in general, specialty, and surgical practices.
• Discuss essential components of the laboratory, specimen collection techniques, and cardiopulmonary testing.
• Describe the importance of pharmacology and medication administration.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

• Minimum of Bachelor’s degree, medical assistant certification (CCMA, CMAA, CMA, RMA)
• 2 years working in a clinical role
• 1-3 years teaching in a post-secondary health professions program (precepting experience will be considered).
• Maintain confidential and sensitive information
• Knowledge of higher education regulations, compliance and accrediting agencies
• Computer proficiency
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
• Ability to communicate in a professional manner and work effectively with faculty, staff, students and members of the professional community
• Excellent multi-tasking skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Skills and Characteristics:

• Master’s degree
• 5-7 years working as a medical assistant or in a clinical role
