Overview

The Senior Data Architect is responsible for designing governing and evolving the enterprise data architecture to support analytics operational reporting and data-driven decision-making. This role leads complex data architecture initiatives defines enterprise standards and patterns and partners closely with engineering analytics security and business teams. In addition to strategic architecture leadership this role is highly hands-on—performing deep-dive data analysis troubleshooting and root-cause investigation of complex data issues within Microsoft Fabric.

Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain enterprise data architecture including data models integration patterns and platform standards across cloud and on-prem environments.
  • Lead architecture for complex data initiatives involving data lakes data warehouses streaming platforms and analytics ecosystems.

  • Define document and enforce data architecture standards best practices and reference architectures to ensure consistency scalability and reliability.

  • Partner with Data Engineering BI AI/ML and Product teams to translate business requirements into robust analytics solutions reports dashboards and data products.

  • Perform deep-dive data analysis troubleshoot data quality and pipeline issues and resolve data integrity gaps across Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse Warehouses Pipelines Power BI) including managing analytical transformation logic and data models using dbt or ADF.

  • Ensure security privacy and governance requirements are embedded in design including access controls data classification lineage and compliance alignment.

  • Lead conceptual logical and physical data modeling for analytical and enterprise data use cases.

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to architects and engineers review solution designs and implementations.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives including performance optimization cost efficiency modernization and data quality enhancements.

  • Mentor coach train and provide feedback to other team members; may provide feedback to leadership on technical abilities of team.

Basic Qualifications

  • Hands-on proficiency with Microsoft Fabric (OneLake, Lakehouse, Data Warehouse, Pipelines, Power BI); strong SQL skills and advanced conceptual, logical, and physical data modeling expertise.
  • Experience with dbt (Cloud or Core), data warehousing, data lakes, modern ELT/ETL frameworks, and troubleshooting complex data issues including root‑cause analysis, debugging, and data quality resolution.
  • Familiarity with Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, or Synapse, plus proficiency with data integration/orchestration tools such as ADF, Fabric Pipelines, or Airflow.
  • Solid knowledge of data governance, privacy, lineage, access controls, compliance, and foundational systems administration and Microsoft OS/products.
  • Strong leadership, including the ability to mentor teams, provide architectural guidance, influence stakeholders across engineering, analytics, AI/ML, product, and business, and drive alignment toward best practices and enterprise standards.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and presentation skills with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly, build trust, handle sensitive information, and collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Highly organized, with strong multi‑tasking, time‑management, analytical, and problem‑solving skills; attentive to detail and committed to data quality and operational excellence.
  • Self‑motivated and able to work independently or collaboratively; capable of managing initiatives end‑to‑end in fast‑paced, deadline-driven environments while providing constructive feedback and supporting continuous improvement.
  • Up to 15% travel required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field—or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6–8+ years in data engineering, data architecture, or analytics platform roles.
  • Proven experience designing and implementing enterprise‑scale data platforms across cloud and on‑prem environments.
  • Demonstrated experience leading architecture for data lakes, data warehouses, and complex data integration ecosystems.
