The Ohio Adjutant General’s Department is seeking a Facility Maintenance Specialist 1 to help maintain safe, functional, and mission-ready facilities in support of the men and women who serve our state and nation. Job Description
What You’ll Do
In this role, you will perform routine and semi-skilled facility maintenance work to support the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of assigned buildings, grounds, and related equipment. Responsibilities include:
- performing preventive maintenance and routine repair work on building systems and facility components
- assisting with minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical maintenance tasks
- supporting HVAC and mechanical room upkeep through routine preventive maintenance
- performing general building repair, installation support, and facility upkeep
- operating grounds, snow removal, and other maintenance equipment as assigned
- completing work orders, maintaining records, and communicating maintenance needs and work status
- using required computer-based systems for email, timekeeping, training, and employee self-service functions
- responding to urgent maintenance needs and supporting continuity of operations

Working Conditions
Work is performed indoors and outdoors in a maintenance environment and may involve exposure to changing weather, temperature extremes, dust, dirt, noise, moisture, and maintenance-related hazards. Regular use of hand tools, power tools, ladders, and motorized equipment is required, along with frequent standing, walking, bending, climbing, lifting, and carrying materials or equipment.

Qualifications

To qualify, applicants must demonstrate:

Successful completion of post-secondary training in facilities maintenance technology, industrial trades technology, or a comparable training program

At least one year of experience in construction or building maintenance that includes work in:
carpentry
electrical
plumbing
HVAC
License Requirement
Must have a valid driver’s license
If assigned to operate motorized equipment regulated under Ohio Revised Code sections 4506.01, 4506.03, and 4506.12, the employee must possess a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL)

Pursuant to Homeland Security Presidential Directive - 12 (HSPD 12), the final candidate selected for this position will be required to successfully complete a National Agency Check Investigation (NACI) to secure employment.
Salary Information:
This position is assigned as a pay range 007 of the State of Ohio’s pay schedule, with a starting hourly rate of $22.60 and current range up to $25.77 per hour. Starting pay is usually at the minimum of the range unless otherwise required by law or union contract, or unless the selected candidate's qualifications warrant consideration above the minimum. With continued employment and satisfactory performance, employees generally advance to the next pay step after six (6) months and then annually thereafter. Cost-of-living adjustments are typically applied on July 1.
