Job Duties:

Under general supervision of Building Maintenance Supervisor 2 & with required considerable knowledge of maintenance repair, performs variety of skilled & semi-skilled maintenance. Replaces, repairs, installs & maintains various plumbing equipment (i.e. water & sewer lines, sinks, faucets, toilets, bathtubs & pipers); performs minor preventive maintenance on equipment as required. Performs maintenance, replacement, minor installation & repair of electrical equipment (i.e. light fixtures, electrical outlets, switches, appliances, wiring panels, fans, heating cooling & sprinkler systems). Performs carpentry work involving maintenance, alteration &/or repair to buildings, equipment & wooden structures (i.e. doors, windows, floors, walls, furniture, door closers & lock); installs locks. Performs minor repairs &/or replacements of gutters & roofs. Paints, patches & prepares surfaces of rooms, buildings, etc; knowledge of block & cement work.

Requires working knowledge of safe driving practices & skill to operate small motor vehicles (van, station wagons, cars, trucks& electrical trucks) to transport residents or staff to/from developmental center for variety of activities (i.e. medical appointments, workshops) & for pick up &/or delivery (i.e. food, supplies, parts). Inspects (i.e. measures air in tires, checks headlights, windshield wipers, turn signals measures level of coolant/antifreeze in radiator), services (i.e. adds, coolant, antifreeze, washer fluids) & maintains (i.e. change oil & filters, lubricates, washes, waxes, cleans interior, replaces light bulbs) motor vehicles. Cleans shop/work area.

Performs general maintenance of grounds by operating outside maintenance equipment (i.e. tractors, riding & push mowers, snow plows) to perform or assist in snow removal (i.e. shovels now, salts to treat roadways, driveways & sidewalks); Cuts grass, prunes trees, weeds, waters flower beds, edges sidewalks, rakes & picks up leaves. Keeps grounds clean by disposing of litter, leaves, and branch clippings. Cleans, performs minor repairs & maintains related tools & equipment (i.e. tractors, mowers, hand tools, snow blowers, week eaters, edgers).

Qualifications

Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary; 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in maintenance repair work (e.g., basic electricity, plumbing, carpentry, masonry repair & use of associated hand & power tools & equipment); in Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry only, applicants must have successfully completed the mandated basic firefighter/introduction to fire behavior course (S-130/S-190); in accordance with section 124.11 (B) (2) of revised code, Director Of Administrative Services has determined this classification to be unskilled labor class & therefore exempt from written examination. Valid commercial driver's license required if motor equipment is of type & size regulated by sections 4506.01 & 4506.12 of Ohio revised code.

UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

May work evening shift; may be exposed to high & low temperatures; may be exposed to weather.
