The Ohio Department of Transportation, District 7, is now accepting applications for Summer Highway Maintenance Workers for the following counties: Champaign, Clark, Darke, Greene, Logan, Preble, Miami, Montgomery, Shelby. These are seasonal temporary positions with an anticipated start date of May 4, 2026 and an end date of September 4, 2026. There are multiple positions, your application will be considered for all positions.

2026 Summer Highway Maintenance Worker or Highway Technician (Multiple Counties)

What You Will Do:

  • Flag/traffic control for highway maintenance
  • Drive pickup truck to set out/pick up signs & follow mowing crew
  • Roadside litter pickup, clean &/or wash vehicles & equipment
  • Clean/hose down garage areas
  • Help with sign repair and sign replacements
  • Use weed eater to trim around buildings, fences, etc.
  • Help clean up roadsides when work crews are cutting brush/tree trimming
  • Answer phone &/or radio when clerk is unavailable

UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
May be exposed to dirt, dust, fumes & noise; may be exposed to inclement weather; may work weekends.

Qualifications

Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication & division. In accordance with Section 124.11 (B)(2) of Revised Code, Director of Administrative Services has determined this classification to be unskilled labor class & therefore exempt from written examination.

Supplemental Information

This position is overtime eligible based FLSA Standards.

This position is unclassified per Section 124.11(A)(29).

The final candidate selected for this position will be required to undergo a criminal background check. Criminal convictions do not necessarily preclude an applicant from consideration for a position. An individual assessment of an applicant’s prior criminal convictions will be made before excluding an applicant from consideration.
