Job Description
We are seeking a Cook to join our team at Indian River Juvenile Correctional Facility. This position will work all stations including cooking, cleaning, and working the service line. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Prepare food: mix salads and make desserts, dressings, and breads; prepare special menu foods; slice meat and cheese; make sandwiches; assemble fruit plates and relish trays; clean and cut vegetables and meats before cooking and mixing; prepare hot and cold beverages
Operate and clean kitchen equipment: operate commercial/standard kitchen equipment; clean work area, equipment, and utensils; ensure safety and sanitation of assigned area
Oversee youth workers: provide work direction and training to youth workers and youth apprentices in food preparation, sanitation, and storage of food
Perform other duties: monitor service lines, loading carts, storage of foods; sweep and mop floors; set up food-line and food carts; operate cash register; prepare daily paperwork

Qualifications
Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication & division; and 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in food preparation, sanitation & storage & use of food service equipment in institutional, school or restaurant setting.
Or equivalent of the Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.

PRE-SERVICE TRAINING:
All new candidates hired to the Department of Youth Services are required to attend 3 weeks of mandatory, paid training at the Correctional Training Academy in Orient, Ohio. Training Academy hours are Monday through Thursday, 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. Travel, meals, and lodging are provided.
