OBN's top priorities are to efficiently license the nursing workforce and remove unsafe practitioners from practice in a timely manner to protect Ohio patients. Public protection is critical, as nursing touches virtually every citizen of Ohio.
Job Description
The Ohio Board of Nursing is seeking a qualified candidate for our available Paralegal/Legal 1 position to assist in the Compliance Unit.
This position will work under the direction/supervision of a Supervising Attorney and will perform the following job duties:
- Assists staff attorneys in analyzing & identifying records to support notice of opportunity for hearing in administrative licensure disciplinary cases, in which the licensee has not timely requested a hearing
- Marks records as exhibits
- Prepares legal affidavits for signature redactions in no hearing request case records
- Drafts legal documents (e.g., consent agreements, surrenders, notices of opportunity for hearing) for review by attorneys
- Reviews subpoena requests filed by parties in administrative hearings conducted under Ohio Revised Code (ORC) Chapter 119
- Prepares subpoenas to be issued by agency in response to the requests & coordinates mileage, witness & sheriff return of service fees
- Identifies any legal issues related to subpoena requests & drafts legal memorandum summarizing issues for attorney review
- Testifies at administrative hearings (e.g., identifies & authenticates documents)
- Maintains knowledge of other Compliance Unit tasks to be performed as needed, including, but not limited to: electronic filing with common pleas court of agency records in appeals cases; public records request response; publication of legal notices in newspaper according to ORC Chapter 119; processing pleadings & other filings in administrative hearing cases
- Requests records from other parties, State Agencies, Boards & Commissions

Qualifications
Successful completion of certification program for paralegal or legal assistant.
-Or 12 mos. law school training.
-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualification for Employment noted above.
