Job Description
DYS is seeking a Juvenile Correctional Operations Manager at Indian River Juvenile Correctional Facility, located in Massillon, Ohio. The ideal candidate will be a leader with excellent communication skills and a passion to habilitate youth.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Ensure safety and security of all youth and staff
- Serve as supervisor on assigned shift; conduct briefings and roll call for Youth Specialists on shift; provide direction to lower-level supervisors and Youth Specialists; supervise Youth Specialists (e.g., provide instruction and training, complete performance evaluations, investigate need for disciplinary action)
- Direct and guide staff during Use of Force and prevent physical harm or excessive force against youth
- Serve as mandatory reporter of abuse
- Monitor and ensure programs are held as scheduled including adherence to special management plans
- Responsible for the coordination of major youth movements within the facility (e.g., meal movement, to and from school, outside movement)
- Conduct investigations of youth and/or employee incidents for disciplinary action
- Act on behalf of Superintendent, Deputy Superintendents, and Operations Administrator in their absences by serving as Incident Commander for all critical incidents affecting the facility
- Coordinate employee call offs; adhere to policies and procedures regarding the overtime roster; schedule staff; assign posts

Qualifications
Completion of undergraduate core program in business or public administration, social or behavioral science (e.g., social work, psychology, criminal justice, criminology) or law enforcement; and 6 mos. exp. in supervisory, managerial or administrative position or in program management or program development; and 2 courses or 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in labor relations/employee relations.

The final candidate selected for this position will be required to undergo a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening. PRE-SERVICE TRAINING:
The final candidate selected will be required to attend 3 weeks of mandatory, paid Pre-Service Training at the DYS Training Academy in Orient, Ohio. DYS provides transportation, lodging, and meals. Pre-Service Training is Monday - Thursday, 7:00 am - 5:00 pm.
