Job Description

What We Need YOU To Do:

Join our Division of Materials and Waste Management (DMWM) team and become the newest environmental specialist at our Northwest District Office in Wood County.

You’ll be a leader in the field. Literally!

We are looking for a mission-driven, focused person with technical skills to serve as operations lead for the division’s field staff. You’ll provide support, guidance, and directives to ensure everyone stays up to date on objectives, policies, and best practices. You’ll review technical reports, evaluate environmental data, and conduct field inspections and sampling at permitted solid waste facilities to ensure compliance with state rules and regulations.

As operations lead, you’ll track goals and deliverables of field work and keep division leadership informed on how work is progressing. You’ll also contribute to developing division policies, procedures, and rules that shape how Ohio manages waste.

As you obtain subject matter expertise, you’ll represent the agency in technical workgroups, enforcement discussions, and public meetings and provide support to communities, local governments, and facility operators on solid waste rules, trends, and best practices.

Let’s run back those key plays:

  • Lead field operations and oversee compliance-related activities for permitted sites.

  • Train, guide, and support staff, facilities, and local governments on division program requirements.

  • Serve as liaison with division leadership to ensure staff alignment with division regulations, policies, and procedures.

  • Conduct fieldwork, sampling, and technical review of reports to assess regulatory compliance.

  • Participate as a technical expert in enforcement, rulemaking, and public engagement.
