Environmental Specialist 2
What We Do:
At the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, our primary goal is to protect the environment and public health. We do this by ensuring compliance with federal and state environmental laws.
Job Description
What We Need YOU To Do:
Ohio EPA wants you to join our team as a solid waste specialist in the Division of Materials and Waste Management (DMWM) at our Northwest District Office in Bowling Green, Ohio.
For us, proper management of Ohio’s waste is critical.
We’re looking for someone who enjoys fieldwork and attention to detail to assist with DMWM's mission to maintain safe waste management in Ohio. You’ll visit solid waste facilities, collect environmental samples, investigate complaints, and write clear reports of your findings.
You’ll help facilities understand what they need to do to stay in compliance and support enforcement actions when they don’t. Back in the office, you’ll review engineering plans and permit applications for landfills, transfer stations, and construction and demolition debris sites to make sure they are accurate and meet state requirements.
Part of your work will involve evaluating health districts approved to administer solid waste programs and facilities in their own areas. You’ll also offer technical guidance and assistance to health and local officials and industry partners regarding solid waste rules and best practices.
Let’s break it down:
Conduct inspections of solid waste sites to ensure permit compliance.
Review permit applications and technical documents for waste management facilities.
Prepare reports and correspondence for non-compliance and enforcement matters.
Evaluate the approval of health districts to manage their local solid waste programs.
Provide technical assistance to boards of health, government officials, and industry professionals.
