Job Description

Position is 4 10-hour days (Monday-Thursday) with occasional overnight travel required. Will be working outdoors including during inclement weather. Selected candidate will be provided with an ODOT truck to travel to worksites. Outside of overnight travel, truck must be parked at ODOT garage/outpost at the end of work day. This position can be based out of any county.

What You Will Do:

  • Work outside with heavy equipment to collect soil, bedrock, and groundwater samples for geotechnical explorations
  • Work with a dedicated crew, typically 2 to 3 members across Ohio
  • Provide the necessary information collected to office personnel through the use of tablet computers, written and oral communications, and close observations

Qualifications

6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in operation of heavy earth drilling equipment (e.g., truck mounted earth auger, hollow stem auger, drive rod equipment, high speed wire-line core drill, front end loader, drag line crane, backhoe or earth mover) & related safety practices; valid driver's license.

Must attain valid Class A commercial driver's license within probationary period.

All bargaining unit and exempt new hires to ODOT must serve a one year probationary period.

The selection process for this position will include a structured interview. Candidate responses to the interview questions will be scored and the selection will be made in accordance with the OCSEA/AFSCME Contract.

If this position is filled internally, the wage rate will be determined in accordance with the contract.

The final candidate selected for this position will be required to undergo a criminal background check. Criminal convictions do not necessarily preclude an applicant from consideration for a position. An individual assessment of an applicant’s prior criminal convictions will be made before excluding an applicant from consideration.

The final applicant accepted for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis prior to appointment to test for illegal drug use.
