Job Description
What We Need You To Do:
Ohio EPA wants you to join our team as an environmental specialist in the Division of Materials and Waste Management (DMWM) at our Northwest District Office in Bowling Green, Ohio.

We’re seeking a motivated person to support DMWM’s oversight of solid waste management facilities across Northwest Ohio.
In this key role, you’ll lead engineering and technical reviews for facilities including municipal solid waste, construction and demolition debris and industrial landfills, and waste transfer stations and processing facilities. You’ll review permit applications, engineering documents, and technical reports for accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance. In the field, you’ll inspect waste sites and construction activities to ensure proper operations and quality control and to investigate complaints.
You’ll provide technical assistance to boards of health, local and municipal officials, county commissioners, and industry professionals regarding solid waste rules, operational best practices, and siting proposals. When necessary, you’ll support enforcement activities for non-compliant facilities, including documentation, compliance follow-up, and coordination with regulatory partners.

Qualifications
ENGINEERING PREFERRED
12 mos. exp. as Environmental Specialist 1, 85861.
OR 4 yrs. trg. or 4 yrs. exp. in a position involving engineering (Sanitary, Geotechnical, Civil, Environmental, Agricultural or Chemical). Training & experience must be commensurate with duties to be assigned.
OR baccalaureate degree in engineering (Sanitary, Geotechnical, Civil, Environmental, Agricultural or Chemical).
