Job Description Summary

As a Senior Consultant, you'll conduct high level, complex investigations and provide consultative services around relevant issues. You will also provide oversight of reductions in force, review legislation, update policies and make recommendations to ensure a positive work environment and reduce risk. This role has strong partnerships with Human Resources business partners (HRBP's), Legal, Office of Ethics and other key business units.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts sophisticated and highly confidential investigations of mid to senior-level associates and leaders around associate relations incidents and issues.

  • Partners with multiple internal resources to acquire relevant data and legal opinions. Conducts analysis of data and options and develops a case action plan to minimize risk and exposure to the organization. May present summary to Human Resources, Ethics and Legal.

  • Conducts follow-up interviews with associates/management to ensure risk exposure is minimized.

  • Keeps up-to-date on legislation and updates employment related policies and procedures to ensure company compliance. Confers with HR, leadership and associates regarding new and/or revised legislation.

  • Develops and facilitates associate relations training and education for HR, leaders and associates. Builds and delivers communications on policies and procedures changes.

  • Leads associate relations analysis for large scale and/or compliance situations. Provides subject matter expertise on legal and employment trends. Partners on intensified employment situations.

  • Interacts with associates at all levels involving sensitive legal, regulatory and management situations. Handles all matters with discretion and maintains confidentiality of all information.

  • Serves as a liaison to other corporate offices such as Compensation, Benefits, Legal, Ethics, Security, Wellbeing and Safety and HR. May serve as the primary contact for other offices and HR.

  • Evaluates requests for reductions in force, conducts adverse impact testing, acquires legal counsel approvals and processes notification letters and severance agreements.

  • Leads the Incident Management Team in evaluation and risk mitigation where associate safety is threatened.

  • Partners with HR, key leaders and/or legal counsel regarding associate releases, memorandums of understanding, mergers, acquisitions and divestitures.

  • Manages relationships with outside vendors. Facilitates agency review boards.

May performs other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to Associate Vice President, Associate Relations and Associate Solutions. This is an individual contributor role and may have opportunity to lead project teams.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate studies in human resources, law, business administration or related field strongly preferred. Graduate-level studies preferred.

License/Certification/Designation: SPHR certification preferred.

Experience: Typically, 10 or more years proven experience in HR, legal or business operations. This includes at least six years of employee relations or employment law experience. Project management experience required.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: : Knowledge of employee relations and human resources management practices and procedures, state/federal employment laws and regulations. Knowledge of related internal practices and procedures in human resources; general insurance, and customer service preferred. Ability to conceptualize an associate relations problem, define relevant issues, conduct a full and fair investigation, develop recommendations and solutions. Process improvement and project management skills. Have well developed verbal and written communication skills for interaction with all levels of associates including top management, other departments, and external contacts such as regulatory agencies. Possess strong negotiating and decision making skills. Ability to lead team projects and collaborate with other departments.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and HR Business Partner.
