This role requires you to work one weekend per month.

The focus of the Enterprise Release Specialist – Continuity Management role will be to provide services and support to multiple teams in the assessment and continuous improvement of disaster recovery exercises. This will include planning, coordination, implementation support, and validation, requiring work on designated weekends. This Release Specialist role will be required to understand disaster recovery requirements, processes, and tools. In addition to those responsibilities, this role will provide support for technical or applications teams in regular release activities and require an understanding of release operations and act as a liaison to ITSM processes and operational teams, as well as understand all aspects of the Enterprise release management process. This role will require engagement, partnerships, and leadership elements as it relates to Product teams performing exercises – both application and infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 5+ years of diverse experience in a large scale mixed-platform organization with focus on distributed based technology

  • A solid understanding of ITIL concepts and processes (ITIL v3 and/or advanced ITIL certifications are preferred)

  • A solid understanding of Scaled Agile Framework methodologies, tools, and processes (SAFe certifications are preferred)

  • In-depth knowledge of IT Service Management with special focus on Release, Deployment, and Change Management

  • A strong background in continuous improvement, process efficiencies, and automation

  • Basic knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Power Platform (Power BI, Power Automate, PowerApps)

  • Basic knowledge of Jira functionality and reporting

  • Demonstrates strong thought leadership and ability to advance strategies and processes in a complex IT environment

  • The ability to educate technical teams and/or individuals on Nationwide’s best release practices and/or processes

  • Solid organizational agility skills – the ability to take complex sets of data and present it in a format consumable by a broad audience, including Level 6, 5, 4 and 3 executives

  • Self-Driven and Motivated in an ambiguous environment

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills is a must, as this is a core service of a Release Operations Specialist

  • Strong Nationwide business acumen and understanding of how Nationwide is architected


Key Responsibilities Include: (but are not limited to):

  • Review disaster recovery reports to determine applications/systems requiring testing

  • Facilitate discovery sessions to finalize scope and dependencies, preferred scheduling, and confirm resources

  • Facilitate a technical review with application architect and subject matter experts to identify all necessary changes for a successful test

  • Perform implementation planning, including the creation of a detailed playbook and scheduling of the implementation Teams meeting

  • Facilitate the implementation of the test, coordinating and tracking tasks and completing post-test validation

  • Finalize test results by notifying all participants and Continuity Management and updating records in ServiceNow

  • Support technical or application teams with release activities outside of disaster recovery, as assigned

  • Potential leadership exposure and opportunity to lead executive reviews, release reviews, and other meetings

  • Creation and maintenance of release metrics, dashboards, and reports

  • Maintain systems of record, specifically ServiceNow and SharePoint

  • Ensure guided event records are organized, documented, and maintained in the ERDM Planning List and Guided Event Calendar

  • Provide technical and leadership communications (verbal and written) that are clearly articulated and understood

The Technology Engineer delivers standard and custom supportable technology products based on Nationwide’s architectural standards, technology roadmaps, industry trends and business requirements. You’ll be focused on collaboration, data, systems, storage, middleware, network, security and contact center technology products. You’re also accountable for the operational aspects and management for the above products in accordance with the business requirements and defined service level agreements (SLAs).

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Creates and implements standard builds/templates for all technology platforms.

  • Drives requirements to meet current and future needs, tracks and reports capacity postures.

  • Applies secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to ensure our data and technology solutions are protected from threats and vulnerabilities.

  • Analyzes reports and delivery recommendations to remediate capacity issues.

  • Implements capacity enhancements.

  • Designs standard and custom technology solutions for business partner projects, including pre-production testing, performance tuning, handoffs and certification.

  • Delivers technology/product optimization, migrations and management, including technology/product design, planning, power and environmental management.

  • Collaborates with others to develop meaningful metrics that drive fact-based decisions on a given product/environment/solution.

  • Conducts proactive system maintenance, disaster recovery planning, data backup and recovery as well as inventory, configuration and utility product management.

  • Executes production engineering processes, incident management, root cause analysis, problem management, change management, release management and knowledge management.

  • Provides production support for all technology platforms.

  • Provides oversight for technical labs and development environments.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to Manager/Director Technology Engineering Manager/Technology Product Manager.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems or a related field is preferred.

License/Certification/Designation: Technology certifications or designation are not required, but encouraged (i.e.: AWS, Azure, scripting and development languages, delivery methods, security).

Experience: Four years of experience with moderately complex integrated solutions and an ability to develop and modify existing solutions for specialized needs. Experience with automation of solution configurations deployment and with system management processes and tools. Experience with concepts and solutions: IaaS, PaaS, SaaS and Package Solutions.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Strong communication skills, knowledge of planning, management and execution of Accelerated Solutions Deliver framework, Information Security acumen. Influencing, negotiating and priority setting is needed. Insurance/financial services industry knowledge is a plus.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
