Job Description
Reporting Relationships: Reports to SVP, Chief Technology Officer. Leads a team of seven direct reports and a total staff of 40 associates and 20 contractors.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership and Team Management – Provides a visionary leadership and direction to Workplace Benefits business and technology teams. Responsible for leading and building a team of technology professionals; including performance management, salary planning, skill development, hiring and disciplinary actions for directs and indirect reports. Cultivates a high-performing team through effective project leadership, operational management, financial oversight, and continuous improvement mindset.
Technology Strategy and Execution – Partners with business leaders to develop and implement technology strategies that directly support the company’s growth objectives. Drives innovation and efficiency by leveraging knowledge of emerging technology, industry healthcare technology solutions, and our Nationwide Technology strategy. Executes financial discipline when managing, negotiating, and influencing internal and external workforces.
Operational Excellence and Risk Management - Ensures operational excellence by identifying, reporting, and managing technology-related operational metrics, including quality, efficiency, financial, performance, and availability. Responsible for the security and compliance of all systems and data, consistently meeting or exceeding risk targets.
Merger and Acquisition Integration - Oversees the seamless integration of newly acquired businesses, ensuring smooth transitions of systems, processes, and personnel.
Strategic Vendor Management – Partners with Procurement to establish and maintain strong vendor relationships, ensuring alignment with business objectives and technology roadmaps. Defines and monitors vendor performance metrics, conducting regular performance reviews and driving continuous improvement. Negotiates and oversees vendor contracts, ensuring compliance, cost-effectiveness, and alignment with business needs.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Typical Skills and Experiences:
Education: Undergraduate studies in Information Technology, Computer Science, Healthcare Management, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
Experience: Experience with healthcare technology and merger/acquisition environments is a significant advantage. Demonstrated experience in general management, applications development, budget and financial management.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Excellent communication and people skills. Proven ability to manage complex technology projects and initiatives. Strong business acumen and insurance experience. Strategic thinker with an initiative-taking approach to problem-solving. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment; including program delivery, overseeing, and delivering on risk targets. Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and Human Resource Business Partner.
