The Technical Services Team is responsible for providing:

  • Supporting governmental/institutional and emerging markets with by working directly with plan sponsors, TPAs, and payroll providers to establish payroll integration.

  • Educational overview and demos of available payroll/technology solutions (SFTP, FastPay & other file transmissions)

  • Assessing the appropriateness of each solution based on the expectations and needs of the plan and sponsor

  • Coordinating forms/document execution and set up of the needed roles and accesses for that technology

  • Conducting pre & post-transition testing to ensure quality in set up

  • Providing respective training to sponsor personnel based on the solution decision

  • ID/Password tracking and resetting - This role is also responsible for tracking, resetting and communicating new IDs/passwords with sponsors at recurring intervals.

  • Coordinating and making changes to support sponsors adding a change/census file and testing sponsors’ new software/payroll provider).

  • Proactively identifying continuous improvement opportunities and process efficiencies within the team.

Success Flex Scheduling: Two days in office & three days remote each week.

It is our intention to fill this role in Columbus, Ohio or Scottsdale, Arizona, however, on occasion, applications from internal candidates that are working remotely who bring critical industry skills and relevant experience may considered.

As a Technical Specialist, you'll build and maintain business relationships with internal Operations staff and business partner(s), by training, advising and coordinating the customer service function for assigned area of expertise. You will enforce and maintain group annuity contracts and analyze the exception requests and recommend action.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides experienced process and procedure oversight.

  • Serves as subject matter authority on a project team involved with the development, implementation, administration and operation of new business and system processes related to expertise. Participates in post-implementation reviews for complex processes to ensure conformance to process requirements.

  • Maintains training manuals with current information and optimal practices.

  • Assists with training associates.

  • Participates in assigned projects and task teams; provides input and performs research/analysis.

  • Assists with issue resolution and technical support for area of expertise.

  • Partners with Marketing and Communications on customer and/or associate training related to projects or area of expertise.

  • Evaluates new and evolving business requirements.

  • Oversees expenses related to function.

  • Performs audit of business partners and audit of data related to expertise.

  • Researches, documents and secures appropriate approvals for Home Office underwriting guideline requests enlisting underwriter's assistance as needed.

  • Assures compliance with contract provisions, underwriting guidelines and LCO and trust company policy decisions and evaluates requested exceptions. Documents and recommends approval of exceptions, as appropriate and communicates Underwriting decisions of these exceptions to all affected parties.

  • Recommends improvements to the sold case processing function.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationship: Reports to Division Manager and does not have direct reports.

Typical Skills and Experiences:


Education: Undergraduate studies in accounting, finance, business administration, communication, marketing or related areas. Technical insurance course work in programs such as LOMA, CLU, ChFC or CEBS desirable.

License/Certification/Designation: NASD Series 6 may be required based upon the relationships handled.

Experience: Six years of experience in private sector retirement plan (PSRP) operations service center in a variety of roles. Customer service in a financial services environment, relationship management, communications, sales management or related field.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Expert knowledge of PSRP financial products and retirement benefits industry. Strong knowledge of the legal climate surrounding the industry. Fundamental understanding of mutual funds, underwriting principles and record keeping services. General knowledge of retirement plans and insurance company products. Must have strong interpersonal and facilitation skills. Must have the ability to build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with business unit and client. Ability to lead multiple tasks and projects. Must have the ability to research issues thoroughly, evaluate and recommend issue resolutions. Proven problem solving skills in identifying problem situations and generating viable solutions. Strong negotiation skills.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by Vice President and Human Resources Vice President.
