This role will work a hybrid schedule coming into the Columbus, Ohio office 2 days per week (Wednesdays & Thursdays).

Life New Business is seeking a highly motivated, Quality Engineer to lead the Test Automation & overall Quality Efforts within the exciting Life New Business Application Suite. This role will provide leadership across people, process, and a variety of technology solutions supporting the Life New Business Journeys spanning Pre-Sale Illustrations, Point of Sale eApplications, Underwriting Systems, through Policy Issuance and Downstream Coordination. This is a hands-on role that leads our most complex initiatives facing off with vendor and firm partners.

This role supports 4 agile lines working in a Product-centric Operating Model. In partnership with Product Owners, this role is responsible for ensuring successful quality delivery of a robust project portfolio spanning product launches, innovative 3rd party vendor collaborations, as well as meaningful enhancements. At the same time, this role leads End to End Test Initiatives requiring collaboration and coordination with Policy Administration, Commissions, and eB2B systems.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement Automated Test Strategies for Life New Business capabilities - Ensure solutions are scalable, secure, and meet business needs

  • End-to-End Testing - Manage testing efforts within and across organizations and provide detailed status reports

  • Enhance QE Practices - Improve our Quality Engineering practices and processes

  • Coach QEs - Guide and mentor other Quality Engineers in test strategies and automation techniques

  • Defect Analysis - Conduct in-depth defect analysis for Life New Business Application Suite and report on findings and trends in the Monthly Operations Review

  • Vendor Relationships - Establish effective relationships with vendors and service providers to ensure high-quality deliverables

  • Firm Relationships - Establish meaningful relationships with Firm partners to ensure high-quality experiences with our teams

  • Collaboration - Cultivate strong partnerships with business stakeholders, product and journey owners, and establish and foster close partnerships across all IT organizations

  • Continuous Improvement - Stay updated on industry trends and best practices - Implement continuous improvement processes to enhance product quality and team efficiency

As a Quality Engineer you will plan and conduct a wide range of software quality tests and analyzes to ensure all application products and services meet organizational standards aligned to their quality management approach, as well as, end-user requirements. Quality Engineers perform our quality planning, quality design and execution.

You will focus on a blend of skills enabling efficient execution of risk-based testing, test automation, performance testing, test data management, test environment management, continuous integration and continuous deployment all improving speed to delivery for our business partners.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversees procedures to ensure all information systems products and services meet organization standards and end-user requirements.

  • Serves as an expert in the analysis and reviews requirements, user stories and technical work products to create the automation needed.

  • Responsible for applying secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to ensure our data and technology solutions are protected from threats and vulnerabilities.

  • Defines and manages multiple test plans, strategies, results reporting and metrics.

  • Uses the appropriate quality engineering tools to define test data management, test automation, security/vulnerability, performance, and regression testing needs.

  • Manages moderate to complex defects including identifying, tracking, and providing critical thinking for resolution.

  • Considers and drives the end users’ experience during the software development life cycle.

  • Is proactive in managing leading indicators of quality in test plans and approaches while ensuring speed and efficiency.

  • Partners with Infrastructure & Operations and Architecture on test data and environment management plans.

  • Sets the release test strategy (including all release life cycle testing phases).

  • Oversees the coordination of all release testing efforts (including all phases of testing during the release life cycle).

  • Aligns with the Nationwide automated testing reference architecture.

  • Complies with release management process governance and timelines throughout the release.

  • Acts as a source of direction for associates.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to Technology Manager or Director.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, or a related field is preferred.

License/Certification/Designation: Technology certifications including TOSCA Automated Specialist 1 (AS1), TOSCA Automated Specialist 2 (AS2), or other related designations are preferred.

Experience: Six to eight years of experience with using test optimization and automation processed and tools. Demonstrated experience in testing for agile teams including planning, test plan creation, maintenance and execution. Good understanding of test automation and optimization throughout a stack and the tools to support.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Strong analytical and communication skills, knowledge of planning. Ability to work on multiple projects, problem solve and set priorities needed. Insurance/financial services industry knowledge a plus.

Other criteria, including leadership or technical skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
