This position will be hired on a SuccessFlex basis.

The hired associate must reside within 35 miles of the following location:

Columbus: One Nationwide Plaza, Columbus OH, 43215

Work schedule: 2 days in office, 3 days remote.

This role does not qualify for employer sponsored work authorization. Nationwide does not participate in the STEM OPT extension program.

Job Description Summary

Nationwide Investments employs a research driven, team oriented, and results focused investment process to manage our clients’ portfolios The Emerging Markets Debt team includes portfolio management and research to push through Nationwide’s EM investment strategy.. The Emerging Markets Research - Investment Professional position will conduct thorough country-risk analysis for the countries and regions to which Nationwide has domiciled investment exposure and where opportunities may exist. The sovereign analyst will work with portfolio management and the research team to drive superior performance and implement the EM strategy. This team member will play a crucial role in enhancing Nationwide’s investment strategies in sovereign debt.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Dedicated coverage of a portfolio of EM sovereigns. Regional or country responsibilities will be set in accordance with team needs.

  • Ability to identify and manage profitable investment recommendations for the emerging markets debt portfolios.

  • Works independently but may require guidance on more complex judgements. Has an advanced understanding of asset class research. May be assigned to small-mid, less complex accounts. Role will have a mix of individual and tactically focused responsibilities.

  • Independently completes research and analysis at a high level of complexity on small-mid, less complex issuers within the asset class.

  • Identifies innovative solutions and/or make decisions that impact the function or investment portfolio in support of the team’s investment decision-making process. Requires guidance on more complex judgements.

  • Assist in developing and implementing new practices or services to Identify risk and return drivers, develops and models forward-looking scenarios, analyzes relative value, and provides investment recommendations for positioning within assigned sectors.

  • Communicates analysis and investment theses through use of written reports, presentations, conversations, and market meetings.

  • Evaluates changes in the economic, regulatory, legislative, and competitive business environments that impact investment fundamentals, valuations, and positioning within client portfolios.

  • Builds relationships with internal and external partners to facilitate the analysis of investment opportunities.

  • Collaborates successfully with other Nationwide Investment groups to advance our clients’ best interests.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to Senior Investment Professional

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree; MBA or CFA preferred

Experience: 6 to 10 years of related investment experience.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

  • Highly experienced Emerging Markets Research

  • Proficient in Excel; prior Bloomberg experience is a plus

  • Solid data analysis/management skills and some coding capability

  • Leadership potential or currently capable of being a team leader

  • Demonstrates presence with excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Organized, detailed, and process oriented

  • Results driven, self-motivated, and intellectually inquisitive

  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving capabilities

  • Positive, hardworking, pro-active, and professional

  • Highly collaborative and team oriented

  • Critical and creative thinker willing to express opinions and views

  • Lead projects and create solutions using complex problem-solving techniques

  • Decisive with excellent judgment with leader guidance on more complex judgements

  • Capable of working independently

  • Leadership skills as applicable
