Work Space: The location of this position is flexible and open to virtual and/or remote based applicants. Individuals located within 35 miles of one of our major offices, will need to adhere to our 3-day hybrid schedule.

What to expect: This is a position within the Claims Operations team supporting Commercial, Agribusiness and Excess & Surplus/Specialty Claims Operations. T

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Workers’ Compensation claim knowledge.
  • Proficient in contract management, negotiations, and claims experience highly preferred.
  • Strong Communication, Presentation, Organization and Relationship Management Skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee several high-profile Worker’s Compensation vendors.
  • Ownership of 6 pillars within vendor management lifecycle for assigned vendors.
  • Governance of vendor contracts, including providing feedback for renewal negotiations.
  • Monitor vendor performance for contract adherence and proactively manage opportunities.
  • Lead vendor performance evaluations and support business partners with engagement tactics
  • Work with business contract owners to understand concerns and needs of vendor to ensure proper usage and selection.
  • Manage RFP process and coordinate with business to ensure stakeholder voice is included.
  • Act as the main relationship point of contact for all internal and external vendor matters.
  • Governance of Workers’ Compensation Trading Partner Agreements (TPA).
  • Engagement of new vendor relationships.

As a Consultant, Vendor Management, you will ensure Nationwide's network of commercial property vendors promote and provide exemplary customer service. You’ll be a liaison to Claims leadership for contractor and vendor performance issues, claims results and overall vendor service delivery.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Liaison between property staff, Commercial Property Phone Operation (CPPO), technical directors and claims management for all issues related to vendor performance, claims review, and reporting.

  • Monitors performance of vendors and contractors with thorough tracking and analysis of vendor/contractor quality data. Develops and supervises a comprehensive metrics suite that allows Claims leadership to monitor vendor performance. Provides analysis to find opportunities for improvement with action plans established to address performance deficiencies.

  • Recommends vendor and contractor performance improvements and the addition/deletion of vendors and contractors in conjunction with claims management. Develops action plans and monitors improvement opportunities.

  • Partners with Procurement to develop contracts that appropriately uses Nationwide’s scale. Contracts will outline cost/billing structure, service levels, loss cost management measures, customer service expectations and require monthly, quarterly and annual self-reporting by vendors.

  • Conducts re-inspections to track performance utilizing best claims practices, as needed.

  • Delivers a positive customer service experience to internal, external, current and prospective Nationwide customers. Partners with Technical Directors and Quality Assurance team to establish audits of key vendors to ensure compliance with quality, customer service and overall contract conditions.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to National Services Director. Direct and indirect reports not typically assigned.

Typical Skills and Experiences:


Education: Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience. License/Certification/Designation: State licensing where required. Successful completion of required/applicable claims certification training/classes.

Experience: Eight years related experience in Property and Commercial claims. Prefer experience in property/casualty claims management.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Requires solid understanding of general management practices and Commercial Property claims practices and procedures as they relate to management of contractors, vendors and claims file review. Prefer knowledge of property direct repair processes, estimating systems, and related processes. Able to use both manual and computer estimating techniques. Proven track record of meeting customer needs and providing outstanding service by advising customers of the claims process and ensuring a positive customer experience. Analytical and decision-making skills needed to review files, determine processing problems/solutions and pursue implementation of new procedure/training. Verbal and written communication skills used to interact with all levels of internal and external contacts. Ability to operate personal computer and related software.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Working Conditions: Requires the ability to travel to vendors, contractors, claimants and policyholder residences and other field locations as needed. Representatives may be required to operate an automobile and have a valid driver's license with a safe driving record. Able to make physical inspections of property loss sites. Able to climb ladders, balance at various heights, stoop, bend and/or crawl to inspect homes and structures. Able to work outside in all types of weather. Must be willing to work irregular hours and to travel with possible overnight requirements. May be on-call. Must be available to work catastrophes (CAT). Extended and/or non-standard hours as the need arises.
