Manager, Software Engineering Product Manager - Life Technology
Nationwide
As the Manager, Software Engineering Product Manager for our Data Integration & Insights area, you’ll lead a team of 10–12 talented technologists across a uniquely broad and critical portfolio: the strategic Life Data Platform, our Reinsurance application, the Life Billing application, and the Closed Block suite (40+ applications). You’ll also be at the center of the Tier 1 Simplify program, helping to stabilize and evolve our closed block of business, ensuring operational ease and continued profitability for years to come.
This role is:
A bridge between business and technology – you’ll work directly with multiple business partners and stakeholders while also being a trusted leader for architects, engineers, and analysts.
A coach and culture shaper – you’ll cultivate curiosity, recognize wins, and challenge the team to keep improving how we deliver.
A portfolio and people leader – you’ll lean on strong senior resources to keep the Closed Block environment healthy and performant while you focus attention on building out the Life Data Platform and Life Billing.
A hands-on technology leader – you won't be coding every day, but you should be comfortable engaging in technical discussions, asking sharp questions, and making informed decisions.
This role is not:
Not just a status and metrics manager – you’ll be expected to shape strategy, influence roadmaps, and remove obstacles, not simply report on them.
Not a lone operator – success comes from collaborating across teams and personalities, even when conversations are complex or high-stakes.
Not a narrow, single-application lead – this is a broad, high-impact role spanning both legacy and greenfield capabilities.
We’re especially excited about candidates who bring a software development or data background and/or Life Insurance experience, and who genuinely enjoy tackling complex, enterprise-scale challenges with a growth mindset. Prior people leadership is preferred. Technologies/applications to be familiar with include Snowflake, Data Transfer, TAI, Cloud Technologies, ABAP, SAP Financial Services - Collections and Disbursements, LifePro, or CyberLife.
This role will work a hybrid schedule coming into the Columbus, Ohio office 2 days per week on Tuesdays & Wednesdays.
This role does not qualify for employer-sponsored work authorization. Nationwide does not participate in the Stem OPT Extension program.
