The Financial Business Advisor serves as a strategic partner to Nationwide’s IT organization, supporting expense planning, forecasting, and financial decision-making. This role helps ensure the technology business operates with strong financial discipline by delivering insights, managing expense processes, and supporting leaders in achieving financial targets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide financial planning, forecasting, and variance analysis for IT cost centers, projects, and strategic technology initiatives.
  • Partner with IT leaders to interpret financial results, develop cost optimization opportunities, and support budget accountability.
  • Manage monthly close activities, including accruals, expense trending, and identifying risks and opportunities.
  • Support the development and maintenance of financial models, reporting dashboards, and process improvements within IT Finance.

Qualifications:

  • Strong analytical skills with experience in financial analysis, forecasting, or budget management.
  • Ability to collaborate with business and technology leaders and communicate financial insights clearly.
  • Proficiency with Excel and financial systems; experience with IT financial management or project-based accounting is a plus.

This role does not qualify for employer sponsored work authorization. Nationwide does not participate in the STEM OPT extension program.

It is our intention to fill this role in Columbus, OH. The hired associate must reside within 35 miles of One Nationwide Plaza, Columbus OH, 43215.

This position will be hired on a SuccessFlex basis. You will be required to come into the office two days per week, according to the department's current schedule.

As an Advisor, you'll provide financial consultation, planning and analysis for a major business operations (state, product, business unit, etc.). This includes coordinating the development of operational forecasts and budgets and reporting on financial income, loss and expense measures. You'll serve as a key member of leadership team.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to the Director/Officer. This is an individual contributor role.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate studies in finance, economics, accounting or statistics; advanced degree in financial field is desirable.

License/Certification/Designation: CPA preferred.

Experience: Typically, eight or more years financial experience including financial analysis, planning, forecasting, actuarial or auditing. Insurance industry background desirable. Prefer at least three years project leadership, management or supervisor experience.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: In-depth knowledge of statistical/financial analysis, financial statement and budget preparation. Knowledge of GAAP and statutory accounting practices and insurance/financial services business requirements. Project management concepts and techniques. Prefer familiarity with specific state, product or business unit operations.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
