Specialist Corporate Compliance

This role is centered on operationalizing and continuously improving targeted compliance reviews across key risk areas, including regulatory applicability, intercompany dependencies, business policies and procedures. The Specialist will leverage structured testing methodologies (e.g., control assessments, validation, and targeted sampling) to assess whether regulatory obligations are clearly owned, operationalized, and evidenced across the business. The Specialist will assess how compliance obligations are defined and monitored as well as evaluate control design and effectiveness through practical testing methods such as documentation reviews and process validation.
The role also supports the development of data-informed monitoring capabilities by identifying key data sources and indicators to enhance visibility into compliance performance.
Additionally, the Specialist will contribute to regulatory and management reporting by translating testing results into clear, actionable insights and will partner cross-functionally with business, legal, and compliance teams to drive sustainable control improvements and issue remediation.
Preference is for a candidate to work from a primary office location; Columbus Ohio, Des Moines Iowa, or Scottsdale Arizona with the option for a hybrid working environment. However, on occasion, applications from internal candidates working remotely who bring critical industry skills and relevant experience may be considered.

As a Compliance Specialist, you will collaborate with our business partners to ensure business operations are conducted in compliance with regulatory, legal and organizational requirements. You’ll plan, perform and sometimes lead or assist in leading various types of compliance reviews with our business partners, detecting compliance issues and helping to build and deliver innovative solutions.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Analyzes various regulations impacting the products and procedures of assigned product and/or functional area. Facilitates or assists with facilitating the development of policies and procedures and collaborates with our business partners to implement them.
Researches and clearly and effectively communicates policy changes/updates impacting compliance and responds to inquiries from the business.
Creates and maintains internal manuals, documentation files, and other related regulatory records to ensure that our records and resources are up-to-date and remain accurate.
Builds and manages various reports and metrics for trend analysis.
Performs testing on business unit procedures to ensure compliance. Analyzes results to identify key trends and collaborates with business partners to make recommendations. Utilizes data analytics where appropriate that help to further the efficiency and effectiveness of our Compliance programs.
Collaborates with business unit leadership to develop corrective actions for identified compliance issues.
May create and host, or assist with creating and hosting, various types of compliance training or presentations.
May coordinate the production of documents and requests for regulatory exams, investigations, subpoenas, etc., including responses to regulatory inquiries.
Identifies innovation and continuous improvement opportunities. Follows through to develop the ideas in collaboration with business partners and other Compliance staff.
May performs other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships: Reports to a Manager, Technical Director, Director or Associate Vice President
Typical Skills and Experiences:
Education: Undergraduate studies in business administration, insurance, business ethics, criminal justice, computer science, finance or pre-law is preferred.
License/Certification/Designation: Depending on the specific Compliance team, you may be required to acquire professional licenses/registrations within a designated time period.
Experience: Typically, five or more years of related work experience in financial services, insurance, compliance or a related field.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Able to build and develop relationships. Demonstrates strong communication skills. Proven ability to set priorities, organize work, and meet deadlines. Creative, innovative, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Able to effectively evaluate and recommend solutions to compliance issues. Demonstrated research and documentation development skills. Insurance, and/or financial services knowledge is preferred. Data analytic experience is a plus.
Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the Director and HR Business Partner. There can be no exceptions to any NASD required certifications.

Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Nonstandard work hours may be required due to pending compliance issues and project work. May require occasional travel.
