This Financial Business Advisor role supports Performance Management and Analysis across Retirement Solutions and the Investment Management Group within Nationwide Financial. The Advisor will partner across businesses including Retirement Plan Services, Investment Management, Pension Risk Transfer (PRT), and Securities-Backed Lending (SBL), providing broad exposure to strategically important growth and in-force blocks of business.

As a part of a lean, high-impact Finance team, you will own critical elements of day-to-day financial planning and analysis (FP&A) and have a direct line of sight to how your work influences business decisions, financial performance, and strategy. This role reports to Financial Business Director, Retirement Solutions and Investment Management Group Finance.

Work Location / Hybrid

It is our intention to fill this role in Columbus, OH working at least 2 days in the downtown office to align with broader Finance expectations. However, applications from candidates working remotely who bring critical industry skills and relevant experience may be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform monthly & quarterly P&L and KPI reporting, forecasting, and analysis for Business Unit Leaders, Corporate Finance, Strategy, Communications, and Executive Leadership.
  • Become the go-to resource on key performance drivers, serving as a data expert supporting business cases, projects, pricing needs, and strategic studies.
  • Capital investment & financial scenario modeling partnering with cross-functional teams.
  • Be a student of the industry, monitoring emerging trends and competitor performance to inform assumption setting and overall business direction.
  • Help advance analytical tools and capabilities, leveraging Power BI, Hyperion Essbase, AI tools, and other emerging technologies to drive efficiency and insight.

Ideal Qualifications

  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis in a corporate or business unit finance environment.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, including comfort with large data sets, complex formulas, data visualization, and executive ready presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to connect data and metrics to business outcomes and performance.
  • A self-motivated, highly detail-oriented problem solver who takes ownership, follows through, and can independently drive work to completion.
  • Experience with cost/benefit and scenario-based financial modeling.
  • Some working knowledge of Hyperion Essbase, Power BI, AI tools, and Tableau (or a strong desire and aptitude to learn).

Reporting Relationships: Reports to the Director/Officer. This is an individual contributor role.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate studies in finance, economics, accounting or statistics; advanced degree in financial field is desirable.

License/Certification/Designation: CPA preferred.

Experience: Typically, eight or more years financial experience including financial analysis, planning, forecasting, actuarial or auditing. Insurance industry background desirable. Prefer at least three years project leadership, management or supervisor experience.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: In-depth knowledge of statistical/financial analysis, financial statement and budget preparation. Knowledge of GAAP and statutory accounting practices and insurance/financial services business requirements. Project management concepts and techniques. Prefer familiarity with specific state, product or business unit operations.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
