Investment Analyst Responsibilities

The Investment Analyst serves as the primary owner for key Middle Office support activities related to financial reporting, market data administration, Private Placements coordination, onboarding, and data oversight.

Core responsibilities

  • Works closely with front office, operational, technology and controllership teams in support of timely, accurate and efficient flow of Private Placement information.

  • Serve as a point of contact for front office credit analysts to ensure internal reviews and relevant documentation are captured within established timelines and that borrower documentation is properly uploaded to the research platform.

  • Manage private placement re-registration activities.

  • Support new deal onboarding activities as delegated.

  • Coordinate and respond to KPMG annual data requests.

  • As needed, support of ongoing fundings of non-Private Placement related investments as delegated.

The hired associate must reside within 35 miles of the following location:

Columbus: One Nationwide Plaza, Columbus OH, 43215

Work schedule: 3 days in office, 2 days remote.

This role does not qualify for employer sponsored work authorization. Nationwide does not participate in the STEM OPT extension program.

The Fixed Income Operations - Investment Analyst position is responsible for operational processes supporting portfolios managed by Nationwide Investments. The position is responsible for performing a variety of operational functions with a focus on daily trade settlement, transaction processing, custodian cash and asset reconciliations for Public Fixed Income, Private Placements, Bank Loans and Commercial Mortgage Loans.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with front office, operational, technology and controllership teams to support various operational processes in order to ensure timely, accurate and efficient flow of fixed income and/or commercial mortgage loan transactions.

  • Focus on data quality of transaction processing and security set-up to ensure accurate data is moving within and between subsequent downstream investment systems and reporting environments.

  • Assist with processing core transactions in Front/Middle/Back Office Accounting systems.

  • Assist with comprehensive reviews of open payables, open receivables, unapplied cash for assigned CUSIPs and review all trades across assigned portfolios.

  • Support the reconciliations of all securities held across all systems and all custody types. Resolve variances with corresponding party (internal and external).

  • Works with the Data Management and Reporting team on assigned reporting tasks, as well as supports the completion and maintenance of critical reporting.

  • Recommends changes to enhance, build or improve existing controls and procedures using Continuous Improvement methods

  • Support internal/external audit engagements, regulatory inquiries, and Financial Reporting Controls.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Fixed Income Operations - Investment Professional

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or an equivalent field.

Experience: 2 to 5 years in Investment Operations, Business Intelligence Reporting, Investment Accounting, or Financial Service industries.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

  • Be solution-oriented and make quick, data-minded decisions

  • Finding opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills

  • Trying new things, asking questions, searching for answers, and taking in new information

  • Build meaningful connections across Investments

  • Basic understanding of Fixed Income Securities

  • Ability to navigate and understand differing software packages including advanced Microsoft Excel skills

  • Basic understanding of data and data flow

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
