Job Description Summary

If you have the desire to develop and lead internal audit practices that drive business outcomes and deliver outstanding solutions and results, we want to know more about you!As the Sr Director, Internal Audit – Digital Auditing Insights, you will a team responsible for enabling data & analytics, process intelligence, AI and other digital capabilities across Property & Casualty (P&C), Nationwide Financial (NF), Corporate and Technology audit portfolios. You’ll provide centralized expertise and support to audit teams and drive the design and execution of digitally enabled audit and advisory approaches. You and your team will also support IA’s own operational reporting, tooling and continuous improvements.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Designs and executes IA’s strategy for the use of data analytics, automation, process mining, AI and visualization across assurance and advisory engagements.
Partners with IA peers to embed digital techniques into planning, fieldwork and reporting.
Oversees development and maintenance of repeatable analytic routines, dashboards and insights that support audit coverage across P&C, NF, Corporate and Technology domains. Ensures appropriate data governance, documentation and quality.
Leads efforts to leverage process mining, AI and advanced analytics to identify anomalies, emerging risks and control improvement opportunities. Supports IA’s evaluation of AI‑enabled business processes and controls.
Collaborates with Professional Practices to integrate digital capabilities into IA methodology, templates and training. Influences the selection, implementation and use of IA tools and platforms.
Works closely with risk partners across the enterprise to help drive an integrated approach to the use of digital assurance techniques and capabilities to enable a connected risk management approach to technologically driven Three Lines of Defense approach at Nationwide.
Provides analytics and reporting to support IA operations (e.g., plan coverage analytics, issue and action tracking, KPI/KRI reporting, portfolio views for the SVP and Audit Committee).
Builds digital literacy across the IA organization through coaching, training and reusable assets.
Manages the budget for digital tools, licenses, data sourcing and specialized external support needed to execute the digital auditing strategy.
Leads and develops a hybrid team of data, analytics and audit professionals with diverse backgrounds providing guidance, mentorship, and performance management. Fosters a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and accountability within the Internal Audit function.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships: VP, Internal Audit. Leads a team of three direct reports and 10 indirect reports. Oversees intern (2-4) program for IA.
Typical Skills and Experiences:
Education: Bachelor’ degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Accounting, Finance, with an analytics emphasis, or related quantitative field; advanced degree (e.g., in a quantitative, technology or business discipline) preferred.
License/Certification/Designation: Professional certifications or credentials in audit, data & analytics or technology, such as CIA, CISA, CFE, or similar strongly preferred.
Experience: Typically, 10 or more years of progressive experience in internal or external audit, data analytics, risk analytics or related disciplines; ideally within insurance or financial services.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Proven expertise in using analytics, automation and digital tools within audit or risk management. Strong understanding of insurance and/or financial services data and processes. Ability to translate business and risk questions into analytic solutions and communicate results clearly to non‑technical audiences. Proven ability to lead technical teams and manage through influence across a matrixed environment.
Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and Human Resource Business Partner.
