Business Insights delivers data-driven insights and solutions by analyzing information across the Personal Lines organization. We help business partners make informed decisions by identifying trends, uncovering opportunities, evaluating performance, and providing objective analysis that supports operational improvement and business strategy.
Through collaboration with business leaders and partners, we leverage data to improve customer and business outcomes, enhance operational effectiveness, and drive measurable results.
Job Summary
A day in the life of a Business Insights Intern might include:
- Retrieving, preparing, and analyzing data from internal and external sources to support business analysis and reporting.
- Leveraging analytical and statistical techniques to identify trends, evaluate business performance, and communicate findings to business partners.
- Completing tasks involving business intelligence, reporting, root cause analysis, and ad hoc business analyses.
- Supporting the development and maintenance of reports, dashboards, and data visualizations used by business leaders and stakeholders.
- Applying quantitative methods to help solve business problems and support data-driven decision-making.
- Assisting in the interpretation of data and development of recommendations that improve operational performance and business outcomes.
- Presenting findings, reports, presentations, and other materials that communicate actionable insights.
- Participating in department and company meetings, special projects, and professional development opportunities.
- Demonstrating curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to learn new tools, techniques, and business concepts.
- Performing other duties as assigned.

About You
A successful Business Insights Intern at Nationwide has:
Education
- Pursuing a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics, Information Systems, Business Management, Economics, Finance, Insurance, or a related field.
- Completion of sophomore or junior year preferred.
- Involvement in student activities, leadership experiences, internships, or relevant work experience preferred.
- 3.0 GPA or higher desired.
Skills/Competencies
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain analytical findings to various audiences.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and data visualization tools such as Tableau.
- Experience using SQL or SAS; familiarity with Python or R is a plus.
- Understanding of statistical concepts and analytical methodologies.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
- Interest in the insurance industry and how data-driven insights support business decisions.
- Prior internship, coursework, student project experience, or demonstrated interest in Claims, Personal Lines, or the broader insurance industry is preferred.
- Natural curiosity and the ability to ask thoughtful questions to better understand business challenges.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced, and evolving business environment.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
