Job Description Summary

As the AVP, Staff Administration, you will serve as a strategic partner to Office of the CEO (OCEO) leaders, helping translate priorities into coordinated plans, informed decisions, and measurable progress. You will bring together leaders and subject matter experts, shape operating rhythms, guide complex initiatives, and provide the analysis and structure needed to advance enterprise and staff-unit objectives at Nationwide.

This role is a highly visible opportunity to influence across the organization, improve how work gets done, and help OCEO leaders focus on the priorities that matter most.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a strategic staff administration partner to OCEO leaders, translating priorities into coordinated plans, decisions, and execution.

  • Coordinate executive operating rhythms, including leadership meetings, annual and cyclical planning activities, agendas, materials, action tracking, and follow-through.

  • Lead enterprise and cross-business initiatives; establish plans, milestones, governance, decision points, and progress reporting.

  • Lead the development of the business-unit strategy, partnering with leaders to define priorities, objectives, measures, and execution plans.

  • Oversee financial management, project and resource budgeting, forecasting, and planning for assigned portfolios or functional areas.

  • Prepare executive-level reporting and analysis; synthesize information, identify trends and risks, and provide clear recommendations to support decisions.

  • Build alignment across business and staff units and serve as a primary liaison with enterprise partners, communications, human resources, finance, technology, and other subject matter experts.

  • Coordinate responses to associate, leader, external, or enterprise inquiries by engaging the appropriate partners and facilitating timely, well-informed recommendations.

  • Monitor strategic commitments, decisions, and dependencies; surface barriers and help resolve issues so initiatives remain aligned with longer-term direction.

  • May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to an OCEO leader. May have the opportunity to manage a team of business or administrative professionals and/or lead cross-functional teams, depending on the assignment.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate studies in business or a related field preferred.

Experience: Ten or more years of experience in business management, strategy, operations, financial analysis, project or program management, communications, and leadership. At least five years of management or leadership experience. Experience supporting senior executives, coordinating enterprise or cross-business initiatives, and working across business and staff operations preferred. Experience in the insurance or financial services industry preferred.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

Knowledge of insurance or financial services operations, financial management, budgeting, resource planning, and program management, with the ability to turn strategy into practical plans, align stakeholders, improve operations, exercise sound judgment, communicate with executives, analyze information, and maintain momentum across initiatives.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and Human Resource Business Partner.

Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Some travel may be required. Extended or non-standard hours may occasionally be required to support critical or priority matters.
