Working at our Corporate location in Strongsville, Ohio, the Director of Accounting will work closely with the CFO to create and sustain a great workplace within the Accounting department for competent, highly motivated, and results-oriented people whose core values and work ethic align with the organization's high performance and mission-driven culture; and whose skills and experience contribute to achieving the organization's goals and objectives.

The Director of Accounting is responsible for directly managing essential accounting and reporting functions within the organization & its affiliates, financial and regulatory reporting, and internal controls. The Director of Accounting will assist the CFO & Controller with treasury and cash management duties and will also lead, manage, coach, and mentor a team of staff members.

The Director of Accounting will ensure that the organization has the policies, procedures, internal controls, segregation of duties, and systems to support effective program implementation and ensure flawless audits.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the general accounting function, including inter-company accounting, cash management/reconciliation & balance sheet management.
  • Accountable for ensuring that policies and procedures (internal controls) are in place, along with testing and segregation of duties
  • Provide technical accounting GAAP guidance and support to all company entities.
  • Responsible for proper timing and application of revenue recognition rules
  • Ensure that company financial records are maintained in compliance with company policies and US GAAP. Responsible for reviewing monthly/quarterly account reconciliations and other documents to ensure this compliance
  • Supervise the completion of Federal and State tax reporting requirements (including income, property, sales and use, payroll, and other local taxes), insurance reports, and other reports required by government regulation.
  • Assist with dealing with tax-related issues and meeting reporting requirements.
  • Ensure that the computer system continues to operate as required. Involved in validating/designing suggested changes to ensure accounting requirements are met.
  • Coordinate work relating to internal and external audits in the periodic review of the company's financial records.
  • Ensure that the accounting department is staffed with qualified financial personnel capable of meeting the above objectives and responsibilities. Responsible for the continued development of these associates
  • Direct management responsibility of the following: Staff Accountants, Accounts Payable, Accounting Administrators

Education:

  • Undergraduate Degree in Accounting plus CPA certification

Prior Experience:

  • 5 - 10 years of combined Public Accounting and Private Industry accounting experience
  • Personnel & Project Management experience in accounting
  • Demonstrated ability to form, lead and develop teams
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departmental functions
  • Experience in analyzing business performance and developing financial plans
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting required
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
