The Opportunity

We are looking for a dynamic and experienced Director of Procurement to help us lead and scale our procurement operations while driving a transition to a more strategic sourcing and procure-to-pay approach. In this role, you will direct the development and execution of a procurement function focused heavily on software and data-oriented products through tight collaboration with our Finance, InfoSec, and Legal teams, as well as a variety of internal business partners. This Director will leverage their negotiation and relationship management skills to positively impact Root’s external vendor relationships while achieving favorable outcomes for the business. It’s an exciting time for us and this is a unique opportunity to build out a procurement function from the ground up that will set Root up for success. The best person for the role will be someone who lives for building processes and frameworks that scale, and has a passion for continuous innovation in space.

Salary Range: $136,214 - $187,294 (Bonus and LTI Eligible)

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Oversee daily procurement activities to ensure efficiency and effectiveness while maintaining quality and compliance in existing processes.

  • Design and implement innovative sourcing strategies that leverage market insights, supplier capabilities, and organizational goals to optimize costs and quality.

  • Streamline and enhance the procure-to-pay process, ensuring that systems and workflows are efficient, transparent, and aligned with best practices.

  • Work closely with finance, operations, and other departments to ensure procurement strategies align with overall business objectives and enhance organizational effectiveness.

  • Understand key priorities by listening to internal customers and proactively create value through appropriate sourcing events (RFP/RFI) while ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the procurement team, fostering a culture of strategic thinking, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

  • Develop tools and processes to evaluate and monitor third-party risk.

  • Partner with business units to manage and optimize vendor contract pricing and relationships.

  • Build upon our current database of vendor information containing key contract terms for utilization across the company.

  • Drive continuous innovation and improvement in procurement programs.

  • Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of procurement initiatives and identify areas for improvement.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What You Will Need to Succeed

  • 8+ years of related experience. Experience with Procurement and Supplier transactions with SaaS, software, Infrastructure, IT, Marketing suppliers and/or working in Tech industry in the Procurement function.

  • Ability to manage and foster a cross-departmental relationships that includes procurement, FP&A, and accounts payable to ensure timely resolution of items in the procure-to-pay process.

  • Serve as the subject matter expert and drive efficient vendor management processes and systems.

  • Strong analytical experience and proficiency in excel and ability to bring intellectual leadership to problem solving; synthesize insights from analysis and ensure credible, actionable recommendations.

  • Ability to transform a procurement function from transactional to strategic, driving continuous improvements to process, policy and building the right metrics while effectively serving our business partners.

  • Experience implementing Contract Management Systems and deep knowledge of the entire Source to Pay process.

  • Bachelor’s degree with analytical focus and/or procurement, supply chain, program management and/or relevant certifications.
