Lazurite designs MedTech devices. Its ArthroFree® System includes the first wireless camera with FDA clearance for arthroscopy and endoscopy. Free of cumbersome camera cables, ArthroFree enables surgeons to work with maximum dexterity, precision, and focus. Without camera-cable-related interruptions, surgeons are able to keep their eyes on the monitor—and on their patients’ well-being. Lazurite commenced commercialization (initial sales) of its first product ArthroFree in 2023.

Position Summary

The Embedded Firmware Engineer primary responsibility will be to drive the development and launch of innovative surgical devices for endoscopy. The Embedded Firmware Engineer will work in all research and development activities related to vision and display systems, medical lighting and illumination, and wireless connectivity.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop embedded firmware focused on digital imaging,
  • Develop 802.11, and UWB driver optimizations
  • Improve and maintain current code base and prepare it for formal validation as well as FDA submission including documentation and version control
  • Maintain strict version control on code base and accompanying documentation to ensure auditability
  • Collaborate with the current engineering team to plan, architect, and implement future embedded systems in new devices
  • Participate in design reviews and code reviews for and new existing firmware
  • Create and maintain testing systems and protocols for existing and future products
  • Manage GitHub repositories and revisions for codebase

Required Skills:

  • Expert programmer in C / C++, understanding of assembly a plus
  • Knowledge of Linux, and RTOS’s such a QNX, FreeRTOS, etc.
  • Knowledge of Linux programming, including V4L
  • Knowledge of Linux device drivers
  • Experience with TCP/IP stacks
  • Experience with low level I/O including I2C, SDIO, USB, PCIe, etc.
  • Solid knowledge of Microcontroller and SOC architectures, i.MX, Xilinx, etc.
  • Maintain and improve existing codebase running on bare metal architecture (i.MX)
  • Strong understanding of video compression, decompression
  • Strong understanding of wireless technologies including 802.11, UWB, BT

Useful Additions:

  • Experience in medical device product development
  • Able to lead external teams when working with contractors to do additional firmware work
  • Able to assist with EE work when other engineers need assistance
  • Solid knowledge of ASIC / FGPA development and programming
  • Experience with Peta Linux and/or Debian
  • Background in image and video processing
  • Basic understanding of optics
  • Experience in other programming languages such as Java
  • Experience in medical device (FDA) or other regulated body standards and submissions
  • Familiarity with ISO 60601, IEC 14971, IEC 62304, etc
